President's Newsletter

August 31, 2012

Hello Staff Assembly,

As President, I welcome you to the 2012-13 year of Staff Assembly (SA).  And I welcome you to become a part of shaping campus events for staff. With over 700 staff serving UC Merced, we have the priviledge of organizing campus wide events and we have the opportunity to share ideas and issues with campus leadership in efforts to help shape the growth and direction of the UC Merced campus.

When I say "we" I mean you.  You have to opportunity to help shape campus events.  You have the opportunity to share ideas and issues with UC Merced leadership.  SA represents you.  We want you to get involved and we need your help.  Come to the Executive Board meetings, help organize the canned food drive, help select the next Staff Excellence Award winners, or help create Staff Appreciation Week.  We need you and want you to become a part of Staff Assembly.  Please send us your feedback and check out the calendar of events for more information.

So, what has SA been up to since my presidency began in June?  In July we (the Executive Board) held an incoming officer orientation where we established goals for the 2012-13 academic year.  Get to know your Staff Assembly Executive Board and their goals.  During the orientation we also had a panel of past presidents share their expertise with new officers.  In August we began meeting bi-weekly and will continue meeting bi-weekly until June.  In August we also facilitated the first of three Town Halls, as well as facilitated a Career Tracks Forum with Human Resources.  And finally, the Past President, President and Vice President attended CUCSA's first quarterly meeting in September.  Looking forward we have quarterly meetings with Chancellor Leland, with the first meeting scheduled for early October, and the November Canned Food Drive.

The next campus wide event will be the SA annual canned food drive.  We will be sending you additional information regarding how you can contribute, both with food and service on the planning committee.  Until then, there are plenty of ways for you to provide feedbackjoin in the fun or stay informed.

Should you have any questions, concerns or comments, please let me know.

Kind regards,

Rachael Martin,

2012-13 President, Staff Assembly
