Norma De La Torre, Assistant Directr of Academic Personnel:
One colleague said about this first recipient, “on a campus filled with individuals committed to the work of supporting UC Merced’s mission, this recipient is a stand out and one of our most valuable resources. For her expansive understanding of policy issues, for always making time to share that knowledge with colleagues, for gracefully juggling the many demands on her time and expertise, and for her warmth and personal integrity."
Bryce McLelland, Staff Research Associate, School of Natural Sciences:
The nominators of this second recipient said the recipient “has been extremely productive and influential in the success of my laboratory and has excelled beyond my expectations. His drive and passion for excellence in research is evident”. “He is a resource to undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory and helps to make the stem cell laboratory a welcoming place to all.”
Jackie Mendez, Administration Specialist, Academic Resource Center:
Here’s what the nominators said about the third recipient, “Her extensive knowledge of policies and procedures, her expertise with PAC and BruinBuy systems, has enabled the unit to maintain a high degree of customer service. Countless times she has taken the initiative to streamline work processes and has exemplary performance in customer service while helping new faculty and staff as they join UC Merced. Every department on campus would benefit tremendously if she were working for them and I feel very fortunate to have her on our staff. She is the heart and soul of the Academic Resource Center”.
Edvardas Dabbs-Vilciauskas, Building Manager, Housing and Facilities:
The nominators for the last recipient of the Staff Excellence Awards say, “Initiative and perseverance are exemplified by his ability to navigate the not only uncharted business practices, but many yet to be written policies and procedures for facility improvement and renovation. He is a stellar employee who goes above and beyond the call of duty with every task he assumes. His instincts and initiative are also exemplary. His developmental approach with students reduces damages and vandalism and keeps costs down. He is a dream come true employee."
Marcos Pena, Lead Groundskeeper, Facilities:
Nominators for the fourth award say of the next recipient, “While Facilities is staffed by many very committed staff members, there are few who are as dedicated as he is. He is here early in the morning and you can often find him late in the afternoon caring for his plants. He knows the best plants to use where and has provided much assistance to the contractors laying the base landscape to our campus. Look around. Isn’t this the best kept campus you’ve had the opportunity to enjoy?”
