UC Merced’s superb sustainability and environmental reputation continue to be a powerhouse, with The Princeton Review placing the campus among only three UCs on its ‘2022 Green Honor Roll.’ The campus also remains on the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings at No.3.
According to The Princeton Review released today (Aug. 31), the campus offers the best sustainability practices, a strong foundation in sustainability education and a healthy quality of life for students on campus.
“Being on the green college honor roll institutionalizes our campus commitment to sustainability in operations, research and education. We are committed to being a living lab and supporting the UC Merced Community in sustainable practices,” Directory of Sustainability Mark Maxwell said.
The green college rankings list is based on data from The Princeton Review’s surveys of administrators at the colleges for its Green Rating scores and surveys of students attending the colleges.
Data from the student survey included assessments of the influence of sustainability issues on students’ academic and campus experiences, administrator and student support for environmental awareness, conservation efforts, and the visibility and impact of student environmental groups on the campus.
As the youngest UC campus, UC Merced remained consistent on the Times Higher Education Rankings, which assesses research-intensive universities across all their core missions. The performance indicators are grouped into five areas including research, teaching and citation —which make up 90 percent of the criteria — and knowledge transfer and international outlook.
Also, this week the school was rated by the Washington Monthly’s new 2021 College Guide and Rankings as No. 103 out of the 391 four-year universities and ranked No. 43 in the west for ‘Best Bang for the Buck’ colleges.
The magazine bases its rankings on the university’s contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and opportunities for public service.
