EECS Student Named ‘Rising Star’ for Computer Vision Work

October 19, 2020

EECS Graduate Student Xueting LiUC Merced doctoral student Xueting Li was selected to participate in Rising Stars 2020 Academic Career Workshop for Women in Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences, which will be hosted by UC Berkeley virtually Nov. 9-10.

Rising Stars is an intensive workshop for female graduate students and post-doctoral scholars who are interested in pursuing academic careers in computer science, computer engineering and electrical engineering. It was launched in 2012 and has been hosted at UC Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon University, MIT and Stanford University.

Li, a fourth-year Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Ph.D. student in Professor Ming-Hsuan Yang’s Vision and Learning Lab, focuses on computer vision and deep learning, especially on the area of unsupervised learning and 3D computer vision.

“In three years, Xueting has published papers in all top vision and learning conferences, including IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition, IEEE International Conference on Computer Vision, European Conference on Computer Vision, and Neural Information Processing Systems,” said Yang, who nominated her for her research excellence and potential to excel in an academic career. “It is rare for a Ph.D. student to accomplish this at any top school.”

Li earned a master’s degree from Tsinghua University in 2016 and a bachelor’s degree from Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications in 2013.

In 2019, Li received the prestigious Nvidia Fellowship that supports graduate students doing GPU-based work.
