Call for Representation

December 17, 2013

Through UC Merced Staff Assembly, staff members are offered the opportunity to become representatives on campus committees.  This provides us with an opportunity for personal and professional growth and service to our campus community.

We are pleased to announce the request for staff representation on a joint search advisory committee for two critical positions for the Merced campus; Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business Financial Services and Controller and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Finance.  The AVC for BFS and Controller reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Administrative Services and will provide executive leadership, direction and management to two newly organized campus organizations; the Customer Service unit and the Risk, Policy, Accountability and Controls unit.  The AVC for Finance reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Planning and Budget and will lead the Finance Group, which includes the Campus Budget Office and Capital Finance, overseeing both operating and capital budgets for the campus.

As a search advisory committee member, you will be required to:

  • Participate in all Search Advisory Committee meetings and interviews beginning in January 2014 through conclusion of the search, with NO exceptions.  Much of the search committee business will be conducted virtually, through teleconference and videoconference, with one two-day in-person meeting for interviews in Oakland, tentatively set to occur in late February.
  • Be an active participant expressing a viewpoint sensitive to staff issues and concerns.
  • Attend monthly Staff Assembly Board Meetings to report non-sensitive and non-confidential information about the status of the search.

If you are interested in serving on this committee, please provide the following information no later than Monday, January 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.  All statements received by the deadline will be included for review and the final candidate selected by the Staff Assembly Executive Board.  By submitting your statement, you agree to attend all search advisory committee meetings and Staff Assembly Executive Board meetings from January 2014 through conclusion of the search.
